Well, the grand unboxing was this morning. I am beyond thrilled!!! The colours came out fairly well and the cover has that sensuous matte texture that makes holding the book feel lovely.
I gave up on waiting for traditional publishers to show an interest in my book. Even though I paid to work with an agent-mentor for a while, that adventure was not particularly satisfying.
I decided to publish independently. I did months of research, and settled on Draft2Digital for the digital version. They distribute to Barnes & Noble, Rakuten Kobo, Apple Books, Tolino, Baker & Taylor, Biblioteca and Hoopla, among others. Why go with a distributor who takes a cut of my royalties? Because it was simpler than setting up multiple accounts then uploading the book file and cover separately to each site.

For the print version, I decided to focus on Ingram Spark for their broad distribution to bricks & mortar book stores around the world. And of course, I couldn’t ignore Amazon, which controls so much of the market for selling digital and print books around the world. Although Ingram Spark does print on demand for Amazon, the various writing/publishing groups I belong to frequently feature stories about Amazon posting long delivery dates for books they do not also have on their platform. So I’m hedging my bets here.
